Public transport: train and bus
For public transport in Sardinia you can find the big blue buses from the so called ARST company. Buses cover almost all major cities on the island. Prices are pretty fair and you can also take your bike or bulky luggage if needed.
There are also trains connecting the big cities, you can book and see time tables at Trenitalia website or directly at the train stations.
Regarding connections from airports in Sardinia:
There is a train connection from Olbia City to the west coast and the south of the island.
From Alghero train connects to Olbia and Cagliari. The train station is in the city of Alghero, you need to take the bus or taxi to get there.
Cagliari Elmas airport has a direct connection to train services. Just outside the airport you find the train station “Cagliari Elmas” connecting south to Cagliari and north to Sassari.
Another way to find time tables and connections in real time would be google maps using “route” function. Instead of using the “car” symbol, choose the “train” symbol to get all public transfer options.
Safe travels 🙂
